The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Aids ) Essay - 2084 Words

Introduction The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is from a sub group from retrovirus called Lentivirus which causes HIV infection leading to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a human condition which progresses to the failure of the immune system causing life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Without treatment, survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be 9 to 11 years, depending in the HIV subtype. Vital cells in the human immune system such as helper T cells (specifically CD4+ T cells), macrophages, and dendritic cells are the main target of HIV. HIV infection leads to decreased CD4+ T cells through a number of mechanisms like apoptosis of uninfected bystander cells, pyroptosis of abortively infected T cells, direct viral killing of infected cells and killing of CD4+ T cells that are infected by CD8 cytotoxic lymphocyte. When CD4+ T cells decreased into a number below critical level, cell- mediated immunity is lost making the body more suscept ible to opportunistic infections. HIV infection is transmitted by transfer of blood, vaginal fluid, semen and breast milk. HIV is present as both free virus particles and virus within infected immune cells within these body fluids. Medical technology is one of the professions that is very prone to accidental exposure to this blood borne pathogen due to their nature of work. In a review made by the World Health organization (WHO) there is increasing evidence that self-testing isShow MoreRelatedThe Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Aids ) Essay2117 Words   |  9 PagesIntroduction The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is coming from a subgroup of retrovirus called Lentivirus which causes HIV infection leading to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) later on among humans. The Human Service Program Essay - 1090 Words

The new skills that I learned would be that we all need help in our lives; just how much and where to go is sometimes elusive for many. The most important thing is helping people where they are in their life and getting them the resources necessary to continue on their journey. I also learned that the Human Service Program can be just a stepping stone for most of the jobs out there and how much need there really is for this field. The skills I possessed prior to the course that were strengthened during participation in class would have to be hoe respected social workers are. I have to say I respected my therapist immensely. Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. Answer: Introduction: Competitive advantage refers to the ability that is gained through the available resources and attributes in order to perform at a better and higher level than the rest others, belonging in the same market environment (Hassan, Yaacob and Abdullatiff 2014). Near about every organization has to face stiff challenges and threats from their business rivals in every market in the current era. Hence, competitive strategy is very important, as it helps the companies to ensure that they are accessing returns for a much longer period of time. In this paper, the competitive analysis of the three companies- Estia health care, Graincrop limited and Alphapharm pharmaceuticals will be discussed. This paper will elaborate on analyzing these three companies based on three strategic analysis tools, namely the SWOT, PESTLE and Porters five forces. SWOT analysis- SWOT analysis or SWOT matrix refers to the technique of strategic planning that is used in order to help an organization to identify its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that are related to its business competition and project planning (Aithal 2016). The SWOT analysis is intended basically to specify the business venture objectives or that of the project as well as to identify the external and internal factors that are both favorable and non-favorable for attaining those objectives. Being one of the leading healthcare companies in Australia, Estia Health Limited has a wide range of strengths that is helping it to succeed in the market. Some of them are reliable suppliers, superb performance, a successful track record of product innovation, and Strong free cash flow. Estia has also built a culture among the dealers and the dealers (Naccarella et al. 2018). On the other hand, in case of Alphapharm pharmaceuticals, the strengths of it include that if offer s a wide range of pharmacy services including the retail services, wholesale product delivery and business advisory services. It has a huge number of landmark banners and products. The weakness of the healthcare is that it has a very limited success outside its core business and its profitability ratio, net percentage of contribution along with its financial planning is below average. It needs more investment in the product innovation as well. On the other hand, the weakness of the pharmaceutical company is that the alleged accounting discrepancies and the sigma takeover controversies have affected Alphapharm in great terms. However, the opportunities present for this aged care is of the presence of lower inflation rate, opening of new markets, new technologies, new trends in customer behavior, introduction of new taxation policy and gaining more new customers from the online channels. Also, there is a huge scope for development in the areas of personal care and well-being for the p harmaceuticals in Australia (Rudd et al. 2014). It can divest the assets of the pharmaceuticals that could assist the company in enhancing its focus on the core business. Moreover, the threats that are faced by the Estia health care are increase in the trend towards isolation in the Australian economy, which can further lead to similar reaction from the other government, which in turn will negatively affect the global sales. The other threats include the growing strengths of the local distributers, seasonality in demand for the high profitable products and intense competition. PESTLE analysis- PESTLE is an acronym for Political, Economic, Socio-Cultural, Technological, Legal and Environmental (Ab Talib et al. 2014). It describes a complete framework of the macro-environmental factors that are used in environmental scanning components of the strategic management. It acts as a strategic tool in order to understand the decline or growth of the market, the current position of the business, and the directions for the operations. The political factors are usually how the country government could intervene in the economy, the economical factors include of the interest rates, economic growth and all that are in relation with the economy (Zalengera et al. 2014). The Social refers to the cultural aspects, the health consciousness, the age distribution, rate of population growth and safety issues. The technological factors consist of the aspects such as the automation, RD activities and the technological change rate. Lastly, the legal and environmental factors are al l about laws, regulations and environmental changes such as that of climate etc. The political factors that have the tendency to affect these three companies are favored trading partners, risk in the military invasion, corruption level, taxation, trade regulations and tariffs, wage legislation, employee benefits, product labeling and pricing regulations (Kolios and Read 2013). The economic factors that are and can tend to influence the company are discretionary income, interest and inflation rates, rate of economic growth, labor costs, the level of education in the economy, rate of unemployment, financial market efficiency and the stage of business cycle such as recession, prosperity and recovery. With the same, the social culture and the way of conducting things can also affect the culture of the organization. In the case, the social factors include class structure, culture (social conventions and gender roles), leisure interests, attitudes, demographics and the level and standard of education. The technological factors also impact the health care, pharmaceuticals and the agricultural companies in several ways such as by affecting its product offering, cost structure and the value chain structure. Furthermore, recycling, weather, climate change, regulation of air and water pollution, endangered species, waste management and the attitudes towards sustaining renewable energy. Lastly, the legal factors that have an impact on this company are data protection, employment law, and discrimination law, anti-trust law along with health and safety law. Porters five forces- The Porters five forces was introduced by Michael porter (Rajasekar and Al Raee 2013). It is also a tool to analyze the competition of a specific business. The five forces include- the threats of new entrants, bargaining power of the suppliers, bargaining power of the consumers, threats of substitutes, and industry rivalry (Yunna and Yisheng 2014). The threats of new entrants brings in innovation and put pressure on the Estia health care, Graincrop Limited and Alphapharm through lowering down the pricing strategy, providing value propositions to customers and by reducing the costs. These companies have to manage all the challenges and built effective barriers in order to safeguard its competitive edge. Secondly, the bargaining power of the suppliers can tend to decrease the margins that these companies could have earned in the market place. The powerful suppliers use their power of negotiating in order to extract from the company (Ho 2014). With the same, the buy ers are demanding a lot (Ben-Daya et al., 2013). They have the tendency to buy the best things within a minimum price. It is putting pressure on the profitability of the Estia health care and Graincrop Limited. Similarly, when a new product meets the need of the customers in different ways, the profitability of the industry suffers a lot and so is in the case of these companies as well. Lastly, if the rivalry among the players in the industries is very intense, it will drive down the prices and shall decrease the overall industry profitability. Like, for example, Graincrop Limited, Estia health care and Alphapharm pharmaceuticals operates in a competitive health care services industry and this competition takes toll on overall long term organizational profitability. Hence, to conclude, it can be said that by doing SWOT analysis, the companies could be able to focus on the critical factors and could discount the less important one. With the same, by assessing the porters five forces for all the three companies, helps in gaining a complete insight of their organizational profitability. Furthermore, it is also to be noted from the above discussion that the macro environmental factors can also influence the companies directly by affecting the competitive landscape and the shaped strategy. King Lear and Little Boy Crying Essay Example

King Lear and Little Boy Crying Essay Sainio Nekongo Grade: 11c Task 1. Research and provide examples of the following literary terms: 1. Simile- A simile is a direct comparison that always contains word as or like. Examples: He is as wealthy as Bill Gate. Her personality is like a bubble in a bottle of champagne. 2. Metaphor- A metaphor is a comparison without the use of as or like. It refers to a person or object (as) being (like) another. The comparison is Implied rather than stated directly. Examples: He is a half witch. 3.Personification-A trope or figure of speech in which an inanimate object or abstraction is given human qualities or abilities. Examples: The wind stood up and gave a shout. The road isn’t built that can make it breathe hard. 4. Litotes- Is a figure of speech consisting of an understatement in which an Affirmative is expressed by negating its opposite. Litotes uses a negative and an opposite to understate what is intended. Examples: He is no Einstein. (He is academically weak) 5. Hyperbole-An Hyperbole is an over –exaggeration, not meant to be taken literally. Euphemism – It expresses an unpleasant or uncomfortable situation in a more sensitive, kind and tactful manner. The purpose is to soften the blow, protect feelings or to be politically correct. Example: The camp forbids any form of chemical stimulants. (Drugs and Alcohol) 8. Ellipsis- It is the act of leaving out a word or words from a sentence deliberately, when the meanin g can be understood without them. The three dots (. . . ) are used to show that a word or words have been left out. Example: â€Å"But, I thought he was . . . † 9. Prepetition- It refers to an event arising before the commencement of the bankruptcy case that is before the filling of the bankruptcy petition. This is not a literary term because it is not used in figurative or nonliteral sense, and it is not used to express language by using its usual literal meaning. I believe that this is a typing error, made when the writer added a â€Å"P† in front of a literary term â€Å"Repetition†. Repetition- Is the simple repeating of a word, within a sentence or a poetical line, with no particular placement of the words in order to provide emphasis. Example: â€Å"We must all hang together or assuredly we shall hang separately. † 10. Pun- a Pun is a clever play on words, alike in sound but different in meaning. The double meaning is used to convey humor. They are us ed in headlines to grab attention and also in jokes or riddles. Example: â€Å"Children should refrain from criminal activity† suggests the inspector general. 12. Irony- The use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. The intention is for the opposite to be understood. Examples: â€Å"I can’t wait for my detention on Friday afternoon. † Walking into the empty cinema, the woman exclaimed,† fortunately, we booked† 13.Sarcasm- sarcasm, like irony, occurs when one thing is said, but something else is intended or understood. However, sarcasm is used with the express purpose of hurting, insulting or humiliating. Examples: â€Å"You must have worked very hard to be bottom of the class. † 14. Rhetorical- is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked in order to make appoint. The questi on is used as a rhetorical device, posed for the sake of encouraging its listener to consider a message or viewpoint. A rhetorical question expects no answer. Example: â€Å"Why are we allowing stress to become an invisible enemy? †Poem: â€Å"LITTLE BOY CRYING† Task 2 Relationship between the father and his son in this poem is shown in different ways, using different themes and literal devices such as personification, metaphor and imagery It depicts an angry, sad and frustrated boy whose mind is full of resentment, because of the heartless and cruel behavior of his father. The poet use of a metaphor in the first stanza â€Å"your frame so recently relaxed now tight† (line 6) highlights the perplexed mind of the child. He is very unnerved by this unpleasant slaughter of his hopes of an ecstatic pastime, and his mind is full of spiteful feelings of his father. The poet use of imagery â€Å"swimming tears â€Å", â€Å"splashing your bare feet† and â€Å" angling for a moment’s hint†, shows that the boys tries try to catch a glimpse and of guilt in his father’s eyes and to make his father realize the anguish he is going through. The use of metaphorical phrase â€Å"ogre towers above you† and â€Å"grim giant† displays the father as a very dominant person over the child who is comparatively extremely defenseless and vulnerable and it also depicts the father as a negative person and his son unequivocally hates and loathes him. I do agree that the boy finally learnt a lesson from the father’s capital punishment. The father is extremely concerned about the boy and he does not take any pleasure in making his son cry but, even if he is in a great dilemma, he chooses to teach his child a lesson than appeasing him, â€Å"wavering hidden behind that mask†. Play: KING LEAR Task 4 In this play many characters tend to value appearance above the reality, illusion above the truth and they have a false perception of other characters because they want to see, hear and believe what they think it suits them most and they tend to turn a blind eye on reality. There are also those who present themselves falsely, either to gain advantage or to reveal truth. The play starts off with Lear, as he wishes to be treated as a king and enjoy the title, but does not wish to have to deal with the hassle of governing the country. This is mirrored in his test he gives to daughter, where he asks â€Å"which of you shall we say doth love us most? †(1. 1. 48) the way this question is phrased already demonstrates that he values a flattering public display of love over real love. Despite the fact that Cordelia, Lear’s favorite daughter refuses to partake in his game causes him to banish her from the kingdom and his close ally Kent. He confuses declarations of love with love itself. He asks only for the appearance, he does not recognize the real love of Cordelia from her single word, ‘n othing’. He mistakes Cordelia’s monosyllable, ‘nothing’ as an insult. When he retaliates with the quip ‘nothing will come of nothing’ and he does not recognize that this truth will apply specifically to him. Instead he values Goneril and Regan’s fake sense of fawning over Cordelia’s demonstration of sincere sense of filial duty. He believes his two older daughters’ sycophantic professions of love, rewarding them with his kingdom. Lear does not recognize his good retainer Kent after long years of service because of Kent’s disguise.Lear is quick to accept him at face value, without any attempt to gain a deeper understanding of him. Even after reconciliation with Cordelia, Lear mistakes appearance for reality. He believes Cordelia to be alive when she is, in reality, dead. Secondly, in this play we read about the second character that is also unable to establish the difference, in his mind, between what people are sayi ng and doing, and what these peoples true motives are behind their action. His fate parallels Lear’s when his choice of appearance over reality puts him at the mercy of his evil, ungrateful child. When Edgar, the good son in disguise as Poor Tom, a madman, pretends to lead his blind father to his blind father to his death at the cliff of Dover, Gloucester, through the illusion of death, is led to an acceptance of afflictions of life. Ironically, the truth kills Gloucester when Edgar reveals his identity. Gloucester sees himself differently from the people around him; he feels that he is a royal, respected man, holding some power and status. Lear’s evil daughters, however, decide that Gloucester is a traitor by advising Lear to escape to Dover; that is their reality. For Lear and Gloucester, they allow the deception of their children to destroy them; they value people and situation by appearance, and they have perceptions for themselves which are not realistic. Similarly, we leant that a person cannot accept anything at a face value but must search for deeper truths and learn to recognize and avoid deceit. Play: KING LEAR Task 3 ‘Of all the play’s villains in King Lear, Edmund is the most complicated villain character in this play. He is morally bad, evil and he is responsible for causing many harms and wreaking destruction upon virtually many character in this play.He is a perfect schemer and an unscrupulous character that highly portrays his eagerness to seize any opportunity and does anything to attain his goal. In act 1, scene 2, line 1-22, Edmund delivers soliloquy expressing his dissatisfaction with society’s attitude toward bastard. He bitterly resent his legitimate half-brother, Edgar who stands to inherit their father’s estate. He resolves to do away with Edgar and seize the privileges that society has denied him. In his soliloquy he talks of his forged letter which he will use to discredit his brother and deceive s his father to place Edgar in a bad light. His serial treachery is not merely self-interested; it is a conscious rebellion against the social order that has denied him the same status as Gloucester’s legitimate son Edgar. â€Å"Now, gods stand up for bastards† Edmund commands, but in facts he depends not on divine aid but on his own initiative (1. 2. 22). He rejects the â€Å"plague of custom† (1. 2. 3) that makes society disdain him and dedicates himself to â€Å"nature†(1. 2. 1) that is raw and unconstrained existence. After his betrayal of Edgar and his father, Cornwall, Regans husband, becomes like a new father to Edmund, as he also has an opportunistic bent.Edmund’s affairs with Goneril and Regan tie the two subplots together very well, although the relationships are not presented in detail, and they do not exist in the source material for Edmund, Plexitrus. He does not appear to have as much affection for the two sisters as they do for him,  and although he was effective against his father and brother, he cannot effectively play the two sisters off against each other  It is notable that when he speaks to Goneril and Regan, he does not speak well, whereas in other situations he speaks very well this is partially due to his trying to conceal his involvement with both of them.Edmund is the sisters lust object, rather than true love, although he himself does not realize this. The death of Oswald plays the main role in the disclosure of the truth and this highly results in the death of Edmund. In act 4, scene 6, after Edgar injures Oswald, he hopes to prevent bloodshed by unsealing his letter than killing him. This letter actually contains evidence that Goneril and Edmund are plotting to murder Albany. Edgar is appalled at this discovery against the life of Albany he hands him the letter at right time.Albany charges Edmund for capital treason and he challenges him to a duel. He calls forward any person to testify that E dmund is a traitor, the disguise Edgar enters, they fight and Edmund gets mortally wounded and he shows a flicker of weakness, and he eventually dies repenting to his villainy. Even if Edmund succeeds in deceiving his brother and betraying his father, he never finds true love. The community always regards him illegitimate. He is rare visible in peoples’ eye (2. 1. 1) â€Å"look, sir, I bleed† he wants his father pay attention on him and gives him the love he need. The two older daughters of Lear regard him as their lust object rather than true love, although he himself does not realize this. I do not find Edmund as sympathetic character because throughout this play Edmund is not kind to other characters and he does care about their problems. He is not showing sympathy towards Lear when he is not storm all alone without any shelter and he finally orders the killing of Cordelia without showing sympathy to Lear’s mental condition.

Cell Membrane essays

Cell Membrane essays Cell Membrane/ Electron Transport Chain Biochemical Pathway 1. The cell membrane structure is vital to the life of the cell. The cell membrane is shaped as having a phosphate head at the very outer surface, and two fatty acid tails hanging from it. The membrane is double, so at the tip of the fatty acid tails, there are two more fatty acid tails attached to another phosphate head. This is what it looks like: The reason the cell membrane is shaped like this is mainly to control the water flow in and out of the cell. Water is very important to the cell: if too much water enters the cell, the cell will explode, and if too much water leaves the cell, the cell will shrivel up and die. This is how the cell membrane controls water flow: the phosphate heads are polar, and slightly attract water. However, the fatty acid tails in between are non polar, and repel water, so the fatty acid tails prevent too much water from entering or leaving the cell. With this tough membrane, there has to be a way for things to enter the cell. This is where the channel proteins come in. They act as gateways to the cell. There are many ways to enter the cell. Some ways require energy, while others dont. The ways that require energy are put into a category called active transport, while the ways that dont require energy are put into a category called passive transport. An example of active transp! ort is the proton pump. The proton pump is an integral part of chemiosmosis, and it pumps protons from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration. This requires energy since things like to move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. An example of passive transport is facilitated diffusion. This is very easy since the particle is moving from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration and through a channel protein made exactly for its size and shape. 2. These membranes are very importan...

Rodney Dangerfields Best One-Liners

Rodney Dangerfields Best One-Liners Rodney Dangerfield had captured the minds of his audience with his ribald, in-your-face humor. Dangerfield expired on October 6, 2004, and his death created a void. It is almost difficult to smile at jokes, but his quotes remind us that laughter is the essence of life. So lets go on with the memory of the legendary comedian while we read  Rodney Dangerfield  quotes. General Humor People say fish is good for a diet. But fish should never be cooked in butter. Fish should be cooked in its natural oils - Texaco, Mobil, Exxon... Acting deals with very delicate emotions. It is not putting up a mask. Each time an actor acts he does not hide; he exposes himself. Men who do things without being told draw the most wages. I bought a new Japanese car. I turned on the radio... I dont understand a word theyre saying. I bought a perfect second car... a tow truck. I have three kids, one of each. I have nothing but troubles with my car. Every Sunday I take my family out for a push. Boy  what a hotel that was. Why, they stole my towel! I was so depressed that I decided to jump from the tenth floor. They sent up a priest. He said, On your mark... What a dog I got, he found out we look alike, so he killed himself. Childhood Oh, when I was a kid in show business I was poor. I used to go to orgies to eat the grapes. When I was a kid my parents moved a lot, but I always found them. I came from a real tough neighborhood. I bought a waterbed and found a guy at the bottom of it. I came from a real tough neighborhood. In the local  restaurant,  I sat down and had  broken  leg of lamb. I came from a real tough neighborhood.  Why,  every time I shut the window, I hurt somebodys fingers. I was so ugly my mother used to feed me with a  sling shot. I had plenty of pimples as a kid. One day I fell asleep in the library. When I woke up, a blind man was reading my face. In the school I went to, they asked a kid to prove the law of gravity and he threw the teacher out of the window. I came from a real tough neighborhood. On my street, the kids take hubcaps†¦ from moving cars. I came from a real tough neighborhood. Once, a guy pulled a knife on me. I knew he wasnt a professional; the knife had butter on it. Family My cousin is gay; in school while other kids were dissecting frogs, he was opening flies. My cousin is gay; he went to London only to find out that Big Ben was a clock. My cousin is gay; I always tell him that in our family tree, hes in the fruit section. I looked up my family tree and found three dogs using it. My kid wants to be a prison warden when he grows up so he can put thumb tacks on the electric chairs. One time my whole family played hide and seek. They found my mother in Pittsburgh! With my old  man  I got no respect. I asked him, How can I get my kite in the air? He told me to run off a cliff. My old man, I told him Im tired of running around in circles. So he nailed my other foot to the floor. When I was born, the doctor came out to the waiting room and said to my father, Im very  sorry. We did everything we could. But he pulled through. I come from a stupid family. During the Civil War  my great uncle fought for the West. I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio. I come from a stupid family. My father worked in a bank. They caught him stealing pens. I looked up my family tree and found out I was the sap. When my old man wanted sex, my mother would show him a picture of me. Im so ugly - my father carries around a picture of the kid who came with his wallet. Boy,  is my wife stupid! It takes her an hour and a half to watch 60 minutes. My daughters no bargain either. In public  school  she was voted most likely to conceive. Age Last year my birthday cake looked like a prairie fire. At twenty, a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he is seventy, he still wants to reform the world, but he knows he cant. I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous†¦ everyone hasnt met me yet. Funny Incidents For two hours, some guy followed me around with a pooper scooper. The other night a mugger took off his mask and made me wear it. Last week I was walking by a cemetery, two guys came after me with shovels. It was all about money. A travel agent told I could spend seven nights in Hawaii†¦ no days, just nights. Last week, my tie caught on fire; some guy tried to put it out with an  axe. Doctors I met the surgeon general - he offered me a cigarette. I went to the doctor because Id swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. My doctor told me to have a few drinks and get some rest. My doctor told me to watch my drinking. Now I drink in front of a mirror. And I drink too much, way too much; my doctor drew blood -  he ran a tab! I went to see my doctor. Doctor, every morning when I get up and look in the mirror... I feel like throwing up. Whats wrong with me? He said, I dont know but your eyesight is perfect. Last week I told my psychiatrist, I keep thinking about suicide. He told me from now on I have to pay in advance. Sex Im at the age where I want two girls. In case I fall asleep, they will have someone to talk to. My sex life is terrible; my wife put a mirror over the dogs bed.  Actually  she did put a mirror over our bed. She says she likes to watch herself laugh. The big difference between sex for money and sex for free is that sex for money usually costs a lot less. A girl phoned me the other day and said, Come on over, theres nobody home. I went over. Nobody was home. During sex, my girlfriend always wants to talk to me. Just the other night she called me from a hotel. I once went out with this wild girl. She made French toast and got her tongue caught in the toaster. My wife only has sex with me for a purpose. Last night it was to time an egg. With girls, I dont think right. I had a date with one girl, she had mirrors all over her bedroom. She told me to come over and bring a bottle. I got Windex. Im taking Viagra and drinking prune juice - I dont know if Im coming or going. I got myself good this morning too. I did my pushups in the nude; I didnt see the mouse trap. I know the best way to get girls. I hang out at prisons and wait for parolees. I asked my wife if she enjoys a cigarette after sex and she said, No, one drag is enough. I saved a girl from being attacked last night. I controlled myself. Im a bad lover. I once caught a peeping tom booing me. Self My problem is that I appeal to everyone that can do me absolutely no good. One year they asked me to be poster boy - for birth control. You wanna  have  laughs? Do what I do. When I go through a tollbooth, I keep going. I tell the guy, The car behind me is paying for two. I found there was only one way to look thin:  hang out with fat people. My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said,  okay, youre ugly too. Im so ugly... I worked in a pet shop, and people kept asking how big Id get. I was such an ugly kid†¦ when I played in the sandbox, the cat kept covering me up. I get no respect. The way my luck is running, if I was a politician, I would be honest. I went to a freak show and they let me in for nothing. I had a good time last week. I did a show; the whole audience was midgets. I got a standing ovation - I didnt even know it! Oh, last week was a rough week. I noticed my gums were shrinking. I was brushing my teeth with Preparation H. I drink too much. The last time I gave a urine sample it had an olive in it. This morning, when I put on my underwear, I could hear the Fruit-of-the-Loom guys laughing at me. His Wife My wife has to be the worst cook. Her specialty is indigestion. One day as I came home early from work... I saw a guy jogging naked. I said to the guy, Hey buddy, why are you doing that? He said, Because you came home early. My wife made me join a bridge club. I jump off next Tuesday. I havent spoken to my wife in years. I didnt want to interrupt her. Once, somebody stole our car. I asked my wife if she saw who it was. She said, No, but I did get the license number. With my  wife,  I  dont get no  respect. I made a toast on her birthday to the best woman a man ever had. The waiter joined me. My wife had her drivers test the other day. She got 8 out of 10. The other 2 guys jumped clear. I asked him, Who said you could fool around with my wife? He said, Everybody. Ill tell you one thing, I know how to satisfy my wife in bed.  Yeah, I leave. I told my wife the truth. I told her I was seeing a psychiatrist. Then she told me the truth: that she was seeing a psychiatrist, two plumbers, and a bartender. My wifes not too smart. I told her  our kids were spoiled. She said, All kids smell that way. My wife has to be the worst cook. Ive got the only dog who begs for Alka-Seltzer. Theres only one thing wrong with my wifes face - it shows. †¦went to a bar for a few drinks. The bartender asked what I wanted. Surprise me, I said. So he showed me a naked picture of my wife. My wife has to be the worst cook. I dont believe meatloaf should glow in the dark. My wife has to be the worst cook. In my house, we pray after we eat. I have good looking kids. Thank goodness my wife cheats on me. I went to look for a used car and found my wifes dress in the back seat. I remember one guy gave her a good piece of his mind. Yeah, it was right after she took a good piece of his leg. My marriage is on the rocks again.  Yeah, my wife just broke up with her  boyfriend. My wifes a great driver; she once hit a deer. It was in a zoo. There is a pair of shoes on the dashboard. They belong to the last guy she hit. My wife was afraid of the dark†¦ then she saw me naked and now shes afraid of the light. Why,  her cooking is so bad that the flies pitched in to fix the screen door. I leave dental floss in the kitchen and watch the roaches hang themselves.

Does left realist criminology develop a new theoretical perspective Essay

Does left realist criminology develop a new theoretical perspective - Essay Example sort which views crime as a blemish which, with suitable treatment, can be removed from the body of society, which is, in itself, otherwise healthy and in little need of reconstruction. Rather it suggests that it is within the core institutions of society (its relationships of class and of gender) and its central values (such as competitive individualism and aggressive masculinity) that crime arises. Crime is not a product of abnormality but of the normal workings of the social order. Secondly, it is realistic in that it attempts to be faithful to the reality of crime. This involves several tasks: realistically appraising the problem of crime, deconstructing crime into its fundamental components (the square of crime), critically examining the nature of causality, being realistic about the possibilities of intervention and, above all, fully understanding the changing social terrain in which we now live. The particular political space in which left realism emerged was in the mid-1980s. The juxtaposition was with the emergence of conservative (`neo-liberal) governments in many Western countries which pursued an overtly punishment-oriented approach to crime control. At that time a liberal/ social democratic opposition was on the defensive. The neoliberals actively pointed to the rise in the crime rate and entered vigorously into law and order campaigns on behalf of `the silent majority, holding offenders responsible for their actions and advocating punishment as the solution. The New Left position, which had its origins in the libertarianism of the 1960s, tended to resemble a mirror image of the right. That is, it denied or downplayed the level of crime, portrayed the offender as victim of the system, and stressed a multiculturalism of diversity and struggle where radicalism entailed the defence of the community against the incursions of the state, particularly the police and the criminal justice system. What was necessary was a criminology which could navigate

Introduction to Statistics and Econometrics Essay Example for Free

Introduction to Statistics and Econometrics Essay 1. Specialty faces the decision of how many Weather Teddy units to order for the coming holiday season. Members of the management team suggested order quantities of 15000, 18000, 24000 or 28000 units. The wide range of order quantities suggested indicate considerable disagreement concerning the market potential. The product management team asks you for an analysis of the stock-out probabilities for various order quantities, an estimate of the profit potential, and to help make an order quantity recommendation. Specialty expects to sell Weather Teddy for $24 based on a cost of per unit. If inventory remains after the holiday season, Specialty will sell all surplus inventory for $5 per unit After reviewing the sales history of similar products, Specialty’s senior sales forecaster predicted an expected demand of 20,000 units with a 0.95 probability that demand would be between 10,000 units and 30,000 units. Questions 1. Approximate the demand distribution using Normal distribution and sketch the distribution. 2. Compute the probability of a stock-out for the order quantities suggested by members of the management team. 3. Compute the projected profit for the order quantities suggested by the management team under three scenarios: worst case in which sales is 10,000 units, most likely case in which sales is 20,000 units and best case in which sales is 30,000 units Questions 1. One of Specialty’s managers felt that the profit potential was so great that the order quantity should have a 70% chance of meeting demand and only a 30% chance of any stock-outs. What quantity would be ordered under this policy, and what is the projected profit under the three sales scenarios? 2. Provide your own recommendation for an order quantity and note the associated profit projections.

The Stress of Childhood Gymnastics Essay -- Sports

The Stress of Childhood Gymnastics   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   For years gymnastics has been a sport that many children participate in. But as the years have gone by it has turned into something other than a place for kids to grow and learn. Its overwhelming commitment has continued to replace kids’ childhoods with stress, mental and physical pain and eating disorders. Many results have come from this change in the gymnastics society. Gymnasts have come to a point where they have been told and directed to understand that winning is the only important factor in gymnastics. â€Å" It’s about the elite child athlete and the American obsession with winning that has produced a training environment wherein results are bought in at any cost, no matter how devastating. It’s about how cultural fixation on beauty and weight on youth has shaped the sport and driven the athletes into a sphere beyond the quest for physical performance.† (Ryan 5)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As a society we have the ability to change the ways in which our elite gymnasts are learning gymnastics. We need to redirect the teachings of the coaches and the parent involvement in order to achieve a atmosphere in which gymnasts can explore, learn and gain gymnastic abilities in which they feel they can handle. â€Å" Over the last 20 years there have been many publications on coaching as it relates to sport psychology or sport pedeology. No theoretical framework, however, exsits for explaining which factors are most important in the coaching process and which relationships among these factors are most significant.† (Cote pg.1) I propose that we create an environment with a stress on healthy dieting, good exercise and less strenuous workouts. Not an environment where winning is the prime concern. There are man... ...)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As you can see there are several problems that lye within the gymnastics society, but we the outside force must come to learn, understand and teach the athletes and coaches some of the correct ways in which they can handle situations. I have come across some major problems throughout this paper, along with some good solution which I hope everyone can take into account. It is important for not only the athletes of this country to be aware of the problems they have, but also to inform the rest of society about the situations hence forth. I know things can change when we put our minds together and create action upon our solutions. I hope this information has helped anyone who was having a difficult time understanding some of the issues that arise with gymnastics, or anyone who had a question. â€Å" Don’t let a problem or situation get in the way of a dream.†

What Parent Characteristics Are Related To the Physical Abuse of the Children?

IntroductionAimThe intent of this paper seeks to cognize whether the features shown by some of the parents are straight or indirectly related to the physical maltreatment of the kids. And the recognition is traveling to be made establishing it at the decision arrived.Justification of Proposed ResearchWhat have prompted this survey are the rampant instances of physical kid maltreatment which have been intensifying by the twenty-four hours. This frailty his broad spread across the United State of America. The perpetuators of the physical kid maltreatment have been found in most instances to be the parents who gave birth to these kids. This phenomena is really non limited to any subset or any subdivision of the population as it has been shown to impact across the societal divide, where households irrespective of their societal economic position or cultural. The kids besides undergo physical maltreatment irrespective of their age or sex.Demographic and societal factors have been identified with the cause of physical kid maltreatment. The increased degrees of physical maltreatment of kids are associated with emphasis the parents undergo exceptional individual parents who have to beguile everything including their callings and their duties as exclusive suppliers. Sadly these maltreatments thrive under secretiveness where the victims hide their sorrows because they fear their parents and besides holds the believe that they must hold been on the incorrect while others still have gotten used to these sort of rough intervention. Physical a buse can be easy noticed because of the physical marks like contusions or hurts inflicted on the victims. This glowering hazard demands to be studied thoroughly and therefore this research comes in manus as it points out correlativity between the traits the parents bear and the physical maltreatment of the kids.Null HypothesisThe parent ‘s features have no relationship with the physical maltreatment of the kids.Definition of Key Fo otingsPhysical maltreatment is largely a sort of mistreatment and is a broad class of idiosyncrasy that can include floging, emotional maltreatment, sexual maltreatment and disregard. As a normal regulation physical maltreatment can be defined as the imposition of physical injury by caretaker or apparent on a kid. It is non a must for the injury to be wittingly inflicted, and in most of state of affairss physical maltreatment is ne'er intended and may be as a consequence of intense disciplinary actions or bodily penalty that are excessively much ensuing in physical hurt or the hazard of bring downing physical hurt. Physical maltreatment normally occurs at the same clip with other signifiers of child ill-treatment. A crude and common illustration of this is when a male parent hits his male child with a closed fist and at the same clip being intimidated or belittled through verbal maltreatments.Such instances are considered to be both physical and at the same clip emotional maltreatme nt because both of them have occurred at the same time. Coming up with the best definition of physical maltreatment is difficult because of different criterions that can be applied to it. For illustration, finding the point at which normal kid up conveying behaviours can turn out to be an act of kid maltreatment? In the United States, definitions vary harmonizing to different provinces nevertheless ; there are two types of definitions criterions that are used to stipulate and clear up what physical maltreatment mean. The first is the harm criterion, which considers behaviour as opprobrious merely if it consequences in incontrovertible injury or hurts. This injury could be in signifier of scalds, contusions, bites, Burnss, scratchs, cuts, breaks, or any of a figure of other hurts. For this criterion, physical injury or assault by either a birth parent or health professional that pose a significant hazard of physical hurt is taken to intend maltreatment. Examples of actions and behaviours that would be classified opprobrious when it comes t o this standard definition, is among others, pluging a kid, subjugation to heat, submerging, , blistering, poisoning, smothering, biting, agitating, choking, and stabbing. However these actions and behaviours might non ensue in incontrovertible hurts like cuts or contusions, they are still classified as opprobrious when it comes to endangerment criterion. Making comparings between the two criterions, it can ever be seen that hurt to the child is equal to definitions of injury while action towards injury behaviour is centre of endangerment definitions. More so, harm definitions criterions are more precise and more nonsubjective as compared to criterions of hazard. The difference between bodily penalty and physical maltreatment is ne'er precise.RestrictionsThe major restrictions of this research is that so many physical maltreatment go un reported hence acquiring exact statistics is so hard and this might take to doing incorrect decision. A besides geting at concrete definition of physical kid maltreatment will be a job because toeing the line between normal child adherent and physical kid maltreatment is hard.Less research has been thoroughly done estab lishing on this subject and so acquiring adequate stuff will turn out as a challenge since there is scarceness of mention. The chosen subject besides is so sensitive and while roll uping informations it will be so difficult because people will be so leery particularly the victims themselves because this peculiar behaviour happens in most homesteads but the victims are normally quiet about the issue.Review of Related LiteratureMost of the recent research has focused chiefly on kid maltreatment in households undergoing divorce as compared to the population in general. In one of the surveies of households preferred for kid guidance for detention or ratings, for illustration, there were so many allegations of kid maltreatment leveled against one parent or health professional in at least three quarters of the households, and out of this, about half of the allegations were mentioned irrespective of the societal position or gender of the birth parent involved. The overall rate of confirmat ion for all types of kid maltreatment was the same as for old surveies of the general population, beliing the thought that parents are more likely to do baseless allegations of maltreatment during detention differences. The thought that most child maltreatment instances reported are stemming from households which are falling apart is so true because of the force per unit area and emphasis related to this. In add-on, American households are undergoing a batch of alterations and divorce is taking a toll order on. The statistics has it that about a million people normally undergo divorce and matrimony nullification annually. It is estimated that 40 % to 50 % of grownups will finally disassociate ( Bee, 1992 ) . Including this has a direct consequence, friends and more so kids who bear the whole consequence of kid particularly where kids are subjected to mistreat as a consequence of psychological anguish inflicted on the divorcing parents. This has besides had rippling effects non merely within household members but besides on the society as a whole. Parental disaffection syndrome, nevertheless, is much more serious. It involves the systematic smear by one parent of the other parent and brainwashing of the kid, with the purpose of estranging the kid from the other parent. The parental disaffection syndrome which occurs due to this unfortunate incident will impact the kids adversely. The parent undergoing divorce is mourning a awful loss due to tonss of societal values wish friendly relationships every bit good as economic value loss. This is frequently compounded by the depressions and isolations. The sum of force per unit area may ensue in weakness which can change over to aggression, choler and loss of moral values. The parents manipulate the feelings of a kid hence taking to disaffection of the other parent and this can take to defeats due to depression which increases on the side of a parent hence taking to increased feeling of weakness. This may be manifested by choler and rough intervention towards the other parent and this already is a signifier of kid maltreatment where the psychological science of the kid has been manipulated with the intent of sick motivations of seeking to do the kid hatred another parent. So it is likely a suggestion that this might take to some features in parents that are linked to what kids may be subjected to child maltreatment. Review of culprit features has examined this literature carefully. Some certain traits or features are discussed thoroughly this is because they are really critical to the intervention and care of opprobrious interaction which are in signifier forms. Many of these suggested parent features raises degrees of emphasis and psychological perturbations for illustration depression, mental upsets and physical symptoms or bad parenting schemes. Some grounds vividly high spots parental function which trigger specific illustrations of psychiatric upsets. These features have been found out to hold triggered the parent ‘s attitude towards a kid alteration as they try to concentrate on the jobs which seem to hold inflicted hurting in their lives. So stress will alter the traits which the parent normally portray and may ensue in aggression or choler and in the procedure of spreadi ng these feelings the parent will vent their defeats on the kids and may take to such things like abuse or physical maltreatment like whipping, combustion, pluging etc. This point of position nevertheless has non been so common from the past research and hence can non be relied upon wholly. In one of the rare empirical ratings of conceptual theoretical account of rearing tested a subject mediated theoretical account with a sample of striplings and their parents. It was ab initio hypothesized that rough subject actions would be generated by crude and unequal disciplinary actions or tactics and accomplishments. The findings did uncover that the birth parental subject triggered the relationship between mental emphasis and unequal parental patterns of disciplinary actions. Parental rough behaviour was non found to be major predicator, but indiscipline kids led to parental subject but ne'er to physical maltreatment parenting patterns. The connexion between emphasis and improper parenting was wholly taken over by parental subject. In add-on to measuring uneffective parenting behaviours, the writers encourage careful appraisal of the parent ‘s perceptual experience and effectual reaction to parent-child interactions in understanding opprobrious interactions. This positio n is so important because the society seems to be in full support of kid being subjected to train as a manner of rectifying or modeling them to be responsible grownups in the close hereafter nevertheless this has been misused by the parents largely who are rigorous or who seem to demo the trait of being so rigorous but they over discipline their kids taking to them being abused. So many instances have been reported where parents urgently try to convert other people that they were seeking merely to train their kids but resulted into ugly incidence. This position appears to be existent although it is normally difficult to distinguish the normal subject process and physical kid maltreatment or what standards to utilize while seeking to state the difference between the two. In relation to mistreat, this theoretical account is concerned with placing the assorted interactions among features related to household working, such as kids ‘s get bying attempts, parental attention giving and subject and other household features. Development ecological theoretical account emphasizes the development i.e. kid and parent-characteristics immediate interactive i.e. parenting, parent-child interactive procedures and broader contextual i.e. community, cultural and evolutionary features with child ill-treatment ( Belksy,1993 ) .Hence within this international sphere, child physical maltreatment seems to stand for the interplay among kid, parent and household factors and is some alone likely to be accounted for by some alone single or household features. The civilization seems to take toll in some of the instances where it is normal as per the cultural values to train kids by crushing or subjecting to penalties. These believes are likely to determine the features of the parents as they stick to their believes and therefore even if the subject is overdone, there will be no superciliums raised. In every society the civilization is so diverse and is governed by some sort of regulations and so is hard and complex to reason Culture has a cardinal in indicating it shapes the features of parents who in bend are associated to physical maltreatment of the kids. In add-on to measuring uneffective parenting behaviours, the writers encourage careful appraisal of the parent ‘s perceptual experience and effectual reaction to parent-chil d interactions in understanding opprobrious interactions. This position is so important because the society seems to be in full support of kid being subjected to train as a manner of rectifying or modeling them to be responsible grownups in the close hereafter nevertheless this has been misused by the parents largely who are rigorous or who seem to demo the trait of being so rigorous but they over discipline their kids taking to them being abused. So many instances have been reported where parents urgently try to convert other people that they were seeking merely to train their kids but resulted into ugly incidence. This position appears to be existent although it is normally difficult to distinguish the normal subject process and physical kid maltreatment or what standards to utilize while seeking to state the difference between the two.Application Previous Research in Current ProposalThe application of the mentioned old research to the current proposal is so suited because the old research seems to hold thoroughly covered their subjects and there are so many relationships between them for illustration linking civilization and the physical kid maltreatment has been antecedently covered and therefore we can associate the civilization and the parental features. Hence within this international sphere, child physical maltreatment seems to stand for the interplay among kid, parent and household factors and is some alone likely to be accounted for by some alone single or household features. The civilization seems to take toll in some of the instances where it is normal as per the cultural values to train kids by crushing or subjecting to penalties. These believes are likely to determine the features of the parents as they stick to their believes and therefore even if the subject is overdone, there will be no superciliums raised. In every society the civilization is so diverse and is governed by some sort of regulations and so is hard and complex to reason that civil ization has a cardinal in indicating it shapes the features of parents who in bend are associated to physical maltreatment of the kids. The association between emphasis and kid maltreatment has been antecedently covered besides and can be connected with the current research proposal where kid features are related to parental features Relationship between household bickers and kid maltreatment has been antecedently covered and this will be applied in this research proposal since Most of the recent research has focused chiefly on kid maltreatment in households undergoing divorce as compared to the population in general. How Articles Were FoundThe articles were found by extensively making research in the library on the old related subjects while others were sourced from the cyberspace. Methods and ProceduresResearch DesignResearch design is a beginning of gum that brings the research undertaking together. A design is fundamentally used to propagate the research. To prove the hypothesis, a information file will be created that combines instances from three different Surveys although the studies may differ in a figure of ways, all three will do usage of the Conflict Tactics step in order to acquire informations on features parents have in relation to physical kid maltreatment. All the three instances besides will randomly take health professional or either the male parent or the female parent for the intent of the interview. Hence, in each study instance it is expected that about half of the respondents would either be the male parent or the female parent for whom the referred kid belongs to.ProceduresThe Procedure of carry oning the research will get down by choosing the mark group of the and so the inquiries to be asked are besides formulated followed by the interview being conducted through phones and one on one so the inside informations of the mark group should be thoroughly done. The standards to used in population to pick out the kids to be interviewed on the issue of the physical maltreatment whereby at least one of the kid under 18 who has been populating at place for rather a piece will be selected. All the three studies will use random method of choice this will be followed by analysis of the informations and coming up with the consequences which are used to pull decisions and hence put in authorship.SamplesSampling is the act of taking units illustration communities, states or colleges from a population of involvement so as to be just in generalising the consequences and this is done by analyzing the sample. The samples will be picked establishing on cultural composing, socioeconomic position, and age. This will do the analysis orderly and easier to carry on. The sample will dwell of two parts which are: a composing of people who are of 18 old ages of age based on national chance sample and over who are lawfully married or live togethering with male and female and over-samples of married or live togethering Afro-american.InstrumentsThe instruments that are traveling to be employed in this survey would include the usage of pressmans, computing machines and secondary informations storage like brassy phonograph record. Other instruments would include the usage of phones, reckoners, calendars, tickers, topographic point visible radiations, Umbrellas, Vehicles and composing stuffs.Ethical ConsiderationsEthical issues must be considered while carry oning this survey whereby the sorts of inquiries to be asked should be carefully framed and linguistic communication to be used should non be vulgar. The inquiries to be asked besides should eschew a manner from being personal and the mode in which these inquiries are asked should be polite for the subject of this survey is really sensitive and if words are non right chosen so the survey might be hampered because the respondents will be leery and might keep back some critical information.Internal ValidityIt is ever o f import to bear in head that there are distinguishable respondents in each study, for This can non be like a panel survey in whereby reinter screening of the same respondents is done at three clip points. This is what is referred to as a tendency survey. In this survey, the mark for which Dynamism is being looked into will non be exclusive respondents, but a targeted group such as a small town, school like college, state or a part. Therefore, a valid tendency survey holds the fact that the sample at each given clip point is inclusive of the societal unit at that clip, the best illustration is the three nationally inclusive samples used in this instance for this survey. If for case, the cultural composing of a given society undergoes metabolism over clip, a panel survey following up portion 1 respondents would no longer be inclusive because portion 2 measurings would ne'er right reflect the cultural composing. This is what is called internal cogency i.e. for the survey to be viewed as internally valid it must stand for every composing of a targeted group so that the survey will clearly maneuver off from being reduced to a panel survey hence turning the survey as non valid.External CogencyExternal cogency is about the same as generalizing. Cogency can be defined as the about truth of illations, propositions, or decisions. So, external survey is the grade with which the decision devising is drawn upon in your survey and would appeal for other individuals in other topographic points and at different times. There are two rules on how grounds for a generalisation is provided. The first 1 is called trying theoretical account. In this sampling theoretical account, one starts by placing the population to be generalized. Then, a just sample is drawn from that population and research is conducted with the sample. Finally, since the sample is represents the population, generalisation of consequences can be done automatically back to the population. There are myriad of jo bs associated with this attack one major one is that may be one does non whom the generalisation would be done to. So in this survey external cogency should pull general decision of whether there is relationship between the features of the parents and physical kid maltreatment.MentionsBee, H.L. Religious or moral issue of concern to Christians Essay

Analyse and explain the way in which a religious or moral issue of concern to Christians has been dealt with in a television soap opera The moral issue that I have chosen to follow is adultery, which is when a married person has voluntary sexual intercourse with other married or not married people, rather than his or her spouse. The reason I have chosen this moral issue is because it is part of everyday life, many people are doing it and are not taking notice of the hurt and pain they are causing. I have chosen Eastenders for my soap opera, because it is a popular soap and the moral issue adultery is shown, through Natalie and Ricky’s affair. Christians have a strong view on adultery, they believe that you should keep sexual intercourse for marriage because it makes it part of a religious or spiritual contact and it makes it dependant on a commitment to spend the rest of your life with someone, also â€Å"Do not commit adultery† is one of the ten commandments, so Christians are totally against adultery. The main characters involved were Ricky, Natalie, Pat and Barry. The storyline begins with, Ricky and his son Liam coming back to the square after a few years away. After a few weeks Ricky is starting to settle down and he is renting a flat with Sam Mitchell his ex-wife, Natalie and Ricky are friends at this point. After a while Natalie realizes she still loves Ricky, her first love, and starts meeting up with him secretly and has sexual intercourse with him. Natalie makes up excuses saying that she’s working overtime and during her lunch breaks when she’s really meeting up with Ricky. One night Pat sees Ricky picking up Natalie from round the corner from their house. The next morning Pat confronts Natalie about what she saw and tells her to end it but Natalie starts crying and says that she still loves Ricky, but Pat tells Natalie about her own love life and that she would be making a big mistake by seeing Ricky. Natalie is still confused and not sure whom she wants to be with. On Ricky’s birthday Natalie stays home and looks after Jack and Liam, Ricky’s son. So Barry, Pat and Roy can go to Ricky’s party soon after they arrive Barry persuades Roy and Pat to go home and baby-sit so Natalie can come to the party. When Natalie arrives she gives Ricky his card and on the back of the envelope Natalie wrote meet me outside the back where she tells him that she is going to leave Barry. Pat and Natalie talk again and Pat shows Natalie the secret tape, which Barry has recorded for Natalie’s birthday it is a really special tape because Barry says how much he loves her, how important she is to him and how happy she makes him feel, after seeing the video Natalie realises that she is doing wrong and tells Ricky it’s over. Natalie realises she can’t forget Ricky and soon their affair is back on and they plan to move away from the square and start afresh. They plan to leave on Natalie’s birthday, Natalie doesn’t even care about the preparations that Barry made for her birthday party in the Vic. They are ready to head off but Ricky’s car has broken down so they have to take the car that Barry bought for Natalie. Barry is still in the Vic waiting for the guest of honour to arrive but Janine knows about Ricky and Natalie and tells Barry. Barry runs outside and sees Natalie driving off but he stops them. Natalie then tells Barry she’s leaving him, Barry takes her into the Vic and shows her what he has organised for her, Natalie runs off to the toilets Barry runs after her and tries o make her change her mind but her minds already made up. Natalie is ready to leave but then Janine tells Natalie that Ricky slept with Sam, Natalie leaves the square only taking her son with he r. Barry is left heartbroken, he then finds out that Pat knew about Ricky and Natalie, Pat and Roy end up having an argument about it, Roy has a heart attack and dies. The issue seen was dealt sensitively because the different characters feelings were expressed, although it was Natalie who was having the affair, you could see that not only was it the innocent partner that was confused but the partner which was committing adultery was even more confused, Natalie wasn’t sure who she wanted to be with at some points and was getting very upset over it. Pat tried to help her make the right decision but Natalie didn’t care. This soap opera made the moral issue less appealing, I think that it made people think more about what they are doing is totally wrong. The reason it did not make it more appealing is because it showed all the different circumstances people were left in, Natalie ended it with Ricky because he slept with Sam, Barry was left with no son and no wife, the baby was left with no father, Pat was left as the enemy and homeless because Roy dies and leaves the house to Barry, so the issue was shown well balanced because all the main characters feelings and circumstances were shown, many of the characters were feeling hurt. Overall I think this soap opera has shown adultery to be unpleasant because it shows just how many peoples lives are ruined not just the adultery committers, but people who try to help them understand what they are doing is wrong, but are then given the evil for not telling the truthful partner. So this teaches most viewers that adultery is not a good thing. I don’t think that soap opera’s might affect people’s behaviour because mostly they deal with issues to express the circumstances of good and bad. This issue would not cause offence because although it is an issue, which is happening in everyday life it is not based on particular people.

The locals like the bird so much that on December 17, 1987, it was made the provincial bird. While these birds are considered pretty to look at their bird call has been described  as harsh.   Great Gray Owl Manitoba is one of three provinces to choose an owl for its provincial bird. The great gray owl is a native of Canada but is often seen in the Manitoba region. Its known for its large head and fluffy feathers. The wing span of this bird can reach an impressive four feet.   Black-Capped Chickadee Following a contest by the Federation of Naturalists in 1983, the black-capped chickadee was chosen as New Brunswicks provincial bird. Its one of the smallest provincial  birds and, compared to others like the Gyrfalcon, is rather tame.   Ã‚   Atlantic Puffin Newfoundlands adorable provincial bird is the Atlantic Puffin. It was a good choice seeing as almost 95% of North American Puffins breed along the Newfoundland coast. This is the only breed of puffin native to the Atlantic Ocean.   Gyrfalcon In 1990 the Northwest Territories chose a bird as rugged as their terrain  to represent them. The Gyrfalcon is the largest falcon breed on earth. This bird of prey has powerful reversible outer toes, that it uses to catch fish and small animals with.   Rock Ptarmigan For its provincial bird, Nunavut picked a common game bird known as the Rock Ptarmigan. This quail-like bird is sometimes referred to as a snow chicken. These birds are popular in Canada and Japan.    Common Loon Despite its somewhat silly name, the Common Loon is the largest in the loon family. The provincial bird of Ontario belongs to a breed of bird known as divers. This is because they can be seen diving into the water attempting to catch fish.   Blue Jay The popular North American bird known as the Blue Jay is the provincial bird of Prince Edward Islands. It was chosen by popular vote in 1977. The bird is probably most widely known for its stunning blue color.   Snowy Owl Surviving on a steady diet of lemmings the Snowy Owl is the provincial bird of Quebec. Missing ACT Score How to Check ACT Scores

Missing ACT Score How to Check ACT Scores SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There’s nothing quite like the white-knuckle feeling you get when you realize your ACT scores might be missing. You studied, you stressed, you planned, soit makes perfect sense to be feeling a little crazed with frustration. But before you lose yourself in missing-score panic, let mereassure you that in the vast majority of cases the problem is small and easily solved. In this article, I'll explain what to do whether you are having trouble finding your scores yourself, or whether it's your target college that seems to have lost the score report from your application. I'll go through some probable – and improbable – reasons for your missing score, and describehow to fix each one. How to Check Your ACT Scores Before diving into what to do about missing scores, let's start with a quick refresher about where your scores can normally be found. Score reports areposted toyour onlineACT student account–usuallywithin 2 to 8 weeks after yourtest date. For a super detailed, step-by-step guide for how to navigate this online tool, check out our guide to getting your ACT scores. Now, if you've tried that to no avail, let's explore some reasons why you might be having trouble. What to Do If You Can't Find Your Scores Scores don't show up on the ACT website for a variety of reasons, so let's go through them one by one. Are Your Scores Not Ready Yet? If you're checking 2 weeks after your test date and still don't see your scores, you should know that ACT is working as hard as it can to get your scores to you. The scoring process can take up to 8 weeks, but you should check your ACT student accountevery Wednesday and Friday to see whether your score has been posted. An ACT score is like a boiling egg - open it too early and it's just a runny mess. If it's been 8 weeks since you took the test, your scores might be taking longer because of a very solvable answer sheetissue.Sometimes, your answer sheet might have arrived late from your test center. Most often the problem is that the "Matching Information" you provided on the answer document isn't exactly the same as the Matching Information on your admission ticket, or maybe some of that information is missing. Don't feel bad if you made this mistake – it happens to 8-10% of students. The last possibility is that you still owe registration fees to ACT. If this is the case, try to get the money to them as soon as you can. Once the delaying situation is resolved, scores start coming outtwice weekly, on Wednesday and Friday. Did You Take the ACT With Writing? Thewriting section of the ACT takes longer to score than the multiple choicesection.Even if your multiple choice scores have been posted but your writing score hasn't, itdoesn’t mean that your writing score ismissing. It willbe posted as soon as itis available –usually about 2 weeks after yourmultiple choice scores are. Did You Take the ACT at an Alternative Testing Site? The process of posting scores online is different if you took the ACT throughState and District, School or DANTES Testing. Your scores won't be onlineuntil after you've gotten a score report in the mail. Wait until you get a letter from ACT, and then log in to your ACT account to see your scores posted. If you took the ACT outside the US or Canada, it'lltake an extra 1 to 2 weeks to process and post your scores online. Did Something Unusual Happen at Your Test Center? Do you remember there beingany distractions or odd goings-on at your test center? Scores can be delayed because of these kinds of irregularities. For example, ifyour test was rescheduled or the testing center was closed because of badweather, scores from the rescheduled test will come out later than scoresfor the originaltest date. Also, if you or someone else complained about something that happened during testing or at the test site, ACT has to look into this. No scores will come out until their investigation is resolved. Well, there was that one kid sitting in a corner of the ceiling... didsomeone complain about him? (Image: Rob Sheridan/Flickr) Are Your Scores From a Long Time Ago? If you are out of high school and your scores are from more than a year ago, they are now in the ACT archives. There are several ways to get them, each with its own associated fees. If you think you tested sometime afterSeptember 2013, fill out the onlinescore report inquiry form. If you took the test between 1966 and 2013, you can get your scores in a number of ways: Request your scores online by creating anACT Web account Senda letter of request to ACT Student Services - Score Reports, PO Box 451, Iowa City, IA 52243-0451 Call (319) 337-1270 Don't worry if you can'tremember your exact test date: if you can remember your approximate test year, ACT can check a range of years in their records for you. If you took the ACT in the original hieroglyphics format, you might have to contact ancient Egypt for your scores. What to Do If Your College Is Missing Your Scores Sure, it's stressful when you can't seem to get your hands on your ACT scores. But it's a whole different level of alarm when your target college is telling you thattheycan't find your scores. If you've been notified that your score report hasn't been received, here are theoptions you should investigate. Did You Use the Correct ACT College Code? A college only receives your score report when you list itscorrect ACT College Code on your score request. If you chose to use the 4 free reports you got with ACT registration, check the college codes you listed by looking atyour copy of the score report. If you ordered scores from the ACT website, go online and check the college codes you entered there. If you made a college codemistake, you can call or email the admissions office at your targetcollege and provide them with your name and ACT ID. Are Your Scores Missing From Your College Application? During application season, a college's admissions office is a whirlwind of files, documents, and electronic records. Because of this sort of chaos, sometimes when thecollege says that your score report ismissing, this "missing" document simply hasn't been processed and logged yet. Sorting your scores into your application file can take as long as a week! To see whether this is the case, feel free to call the admissions office to calmly and respectfully ask them to double check whether your scores are actually already there. I recommend waiting 3 weeks after sending your scores before you call. Your college might also be receiving ACT scores on a slightly different schedule. Each college chooses how often to download score reports. Some do it as infrequently as once every 2 weeks! All that being said, it's true that sometimes things do go missing or get misfiled. If the college can’t find your scores, don't freak out. Instead, as quickly as you can, resend your scoresso you can still get them in as close to the application deadline as possible. Pro tip: Don’t simply send a copy of your score report to the college!Colleges will only accept score reports sent directly to them from ACT, so your copy won't count as a score submission. Your copied ACT reports are like this Olaf: adorable, but not real. Sometimes Disaster Strikes, But Don't Panic! Sometimes the world just spins a little bit off its axis. Every now and again ACT answer sheets just up and disappear seemingly into the vacuum of space. This is a good time to seek guidance from your school counselor, and to be aware that in these cases, a reasonable and equitable solution (sometimes helped along by some press coverage) is sure to follow. For example, ACTs were lostin at least two places on the June 13 test date. In Kings Park, NY, 61 tests vanished from Kings Park High School despite the test being administered by the ACT itself.Similarly, atWinter Park High School in Orlando, Florida, 50 ACT examsgot lost in the mail and remain missing.ACT has given all the students an offer to retake the test for free. Black holes consume light, energy, and, of course, random ACT answer sheets. What’s Next?
